The Coach Behind The Tours

Meet Chad MacLeod

A former pro. Three decades behind the bench. And a belief that the best thing you can give a young player is the game at its highest level.

Chad MacLeod is the owner of MAC Sports, a professional hockey coach, and an experienced international sports-tour organizer committed to providing athletes with meaningful opportunities to compete, develop, and experience their sport on a global stage. His background combines professional-level coaching, player development, team management, international competition, and the extensive logistical experience required to successfully lead athletes and families overseas.

For parents, choosing a coach or international tour organization involves far more than selecting a destination or tournament. It means placing trust in the person responsible for their child’s development, confidence, safety, and overall experience. Chad brings a unique combination of professional coaching knowledge and international leadership experience, allowing him to understand every stage of the athlete’s journey—from preparation and competition to transportation, accommodations, documentation, communication, and life away from home.

Professional Coaching Experience

Chad spent three years coaching at the professional hockey level, serving as both an assistant coach and goalie coach. During games, he was responsible for managing the team’s defensive structure and overseeing its penalty-kill units. These positions required strategic preparation, detailed player evaluation, real-time decision-making, and the ability to clearly communicate systems and expectations to athletes competing at a professional level.

His responsibilities extended well beyond practices and game days. Chad used InStat video-analysis software to review game footage, evaluate individual and team performance, identify areas for improvement, and prepare players through visual instruction. He also created and delivered professional presentations designed to communicate strategies, systems, performance expectations, and team objectives.

This experience continues to shape Chad’s approach to coaching and athlete development. He understands that players develop most effectively when they receive knowledgeable instruction, clear expectations, constructive feedback, and opportunities that challenge them at the appropriate level. His goal is not simply to coach a game or organize a trip—it is to create an environment in which athletes can build confidence, expand their understanding of their sport, and gain experiences that remain valuable long after the competition ends.

Understanding the Complete Athlete Experience

One of Chad’s greatest strengths is his understanding of everything required to support a team and its players—not only during competition, but throughout an entire season.

At the professional level, Chad was involved in player signings and trades, salary-cap management, immigration matters, and work-visa requirements. He was also responsible for player apartments and extensive travel coordination, including buses, hotels, per diems, individual travel arrangements, and player expenses.

That operational experience is especially valuable when organizing international tours. Traveling overseas with young athletes requires careful planning, organization, accountability, and attention to countless details families may never see. Transportation, accommodations, schedules, tournament requirements, travel documentation, and daily logistics must work together seamlessly so athletes and their families can remain focused on the experience itself.

Chad approaches each tour from two important perspectives: as a coach who understands what athletes need to prepare, perform, and develop, and as an organizer who understands what parents need in order to feel informed, comfortable, and confident throughout the process.

Proven International Tournament Experience

Chad’s knowledge of European competition is based on direct, repeated experience—not simply research or third-party planning.

Chad has traveled to Finland for the Lions Cup five times, leading athletes through one of MAC Sports’ signature international hockey experiences. Across those five appearances, his teams have reached the podium three times—earning one gold medal, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

This firsthand experience matters. Chad understands the tournament environment, the level and style of competition, the travel demands, and the preparation athletes need before arriving in Europe. He is familiar with the challenges that can arise when teams compete internationally and understands how to guide players and families through an experience that may be entirely new to them.

While medals are an important accomplishment, Chad believes the value of international competition reaches far beyond the final standings. Athletes return home with greater confidence, new friendships, a broader understanding of their sport, and memories that cannot be replicated through ordinary tournament travel.

Custom European Sports Tours

Through MAC Sports, Chad creates customized European tours designed to give athletes the opportunity to compete internationally while experiencing the culture, traditions, and playing styles of other countries.

Current hockey opportunities include:

  • Finland Lions Cup
  • Czechia Lions Cup
  • World Junior Championship and Lions Cup experiences in Finland for 2027 and 2028

MAC Sports also offers international ringette opportunities through:

  • Finland Lions Cup

For soccer athletes, MAC Sports offers spring and summer opportunities in Spain, as well as summer opportunities throughout Scandinavia. These tours give athletes and their families the chance to experience soccer in destinations where the sport holds deep cultural significance. By combining international competition, development, and cultural exploration, each tour is designed to broaden an athlete’s perspective both on and off the field.

Every MAC Sports tour is intended to be more than a standard tournament trip. Competing internationally introduces young athletes to new opponents, coaching styles, playing environments, and cultures. It encourages adaptability, independence, teamwork, and confidence while giving athletes and their families the opportunity to share an unforgettable experience.

Why Families Choose Chad and MAC Sports

Parents deserve to know that the person leading their child has experience in both the visible and behind-the-scenes responsibilities that come with competitive sports and international travel.

Chad’s background gives families one knowledgeable point of leadership who understands coaching, athlete development, professional team operations, international competition, immigration requirements, accommodations, transportation, financial logistics, and the realities of traveling with a team. He knows what athletes need in order to compete effectively, and he understands the communication and organization parents need in order to feel confident placing their child in someone else’s care.

He also recognizes that every athlete arrives with different goals. Some are experiencing international competition for the first time. Others are seeking a greater challenge, new developmental opportunities, or exposure to a different style of play. Chad works to create an environment in which athletes feel prepared, supported, and proud to represent their team while competing abroad.

His ability to connect professional coaching experience with proven international-tour leadership is what distinguishes Chad and MAC Sports. Every detail—from team preparation and tournament selection to transportation and accommodations—is approached with purpose. The objective is to provide a well-organized, high-quality experience that allows athletes to compete, develop, build lasting relationships, and return home with a broader understanding of both their sport and themselves.

In addition to his coaching and leadership work, Chad is available for public appearances, professional presentations, community events, and guest-speaking engagements. In every role, he brings practical experience, a deep understanding of competitive sports, and a genuine commitment to creating valuable opportunities for athletes and their families.
